why learn cpr?

You Can Save A Life

Learning CPR is important because it is a life-saving skill that can be used in an emergency situation when someone's heart has stopped beating. When a person's heart stops, they are in cardiac arrest and need immediate medical attention. CPR can help keep the blood circulating and oxygen flowing to the brain until medical help arrives. By learning CPR, you can potentially save the life of someone you know or even a stranger. It is a simple skill that anyone can learn and it does not require any special equipment.

Facts:

  • Cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death worldwide.
  • CPR can double or triple a person's chance of survival after cardiac arrest.
  • CPR can be performed by anyone, regardless of age or physical fitness.
  • CPR can be performed on adults, children, and infants.
  • CPR guidelines are updated every 5 years by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Hands-only CPR (CPR performed without mouth-to-mouth ventilation) is an effective alternative to traditional CPR and can be used by laypeople in an emergency.
  • Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) can be used in conjunction with CPR to help restore a normal heart rhythm in cases of cardiac arrest.
  • CPR training is widely available through organizations such as the AHA and the Red Cross, as well as through many community centers, schools, and workplaces.
